Natural materials have a very special magic through their feel and impression – whether paper, wood, clay or textiles made of wool, silk or linen.
After many years of concentrating on artistic work on paper, I had the dream of also creating with and on other natural materials. The first project, which is available in my online shop since today, are my hand-printed cushions made of old linen.
With them, I combine a natural fibre with a natural motif designed by me and carved with linoleum tools. In the first limited series of three cushions, it is the sunflower, which is also available as a linoleum print on paper (Note: the cushions are already all sold out. New printed textiles will follow soon).
It is important to me that the cushion cover is 100% handmade – both the sewing and the printing. I deliberately use old linen because it has more character and the principle of reuse is important to me.
Each cushion is unique and only the ones that are currently shown in the online shop are for sale. Because usually there are only small quantities of linen of one type available and then 3-5 cushions are made from it. The next series will only come when I find new linen that I like. Other nature motifs and colours are also planned. So it’s best to check my shop from time to time to see if your personal favourite piece is there.
By the way, the cushion is delivered with an inlay made of kapog. This is a sustainably obtained fluffy white natural fibre, also called vegan down. You can find more information about it here at the manufacturer. If you only want the cover because you have a 50 x 50 cm inlay yourself, feel free to write me. The cushions then cost 166 EUR instead of 195 EUR.
Naturmaterialien haben für mich einen ganz besonderen Zauber durch ihre Haptik und Anmutung – ob Papier, Holz, Ton oder Textilien aus Wolle, Seide oder auch aus Leinen.
Nachdem ich mich nun viele Jahre auf das künstlerische Arbeiten auf Papier konzentriert habe, hatte ich den Wunsch, auch mit und auf anderen Naturmaterialien zu gestalten. Das erste Projekt, das seit heute in meinem Online-Shop erhältlich ist, sind meine von mir handbedruckten Kissen aus altem Leinen.
Ich verbinde damit eine Naturfaser mit einem von mir designten und mit Linolwerkzeug geschnitzten Naturmotiv. In der ersten limitierten Serie von drei Kissen ist es die Sonnenblume, die es auch als Linoldruck auf Papier gibt (Nachtrag: die Kissen sind bereits vergriffen. Demnächst folgen neue bedruckte Textilien).
Wichtig bei der Herstellung ist mir, dass der Kissenbezug in 100% Handarbeit entsteht – sowohl das Nähen, als auch das Bedrucken. Bewusst verwende ich altes Leinen, weil es mehr Charakter hat und mir das Prinzip der Wiederverwendung wichtig ist.
Jedes Kissen ist ein Unikat und es sind nur die erhältlich, die aktuell im Online-Shop zu sehen sind. Denn meist sind es nur kleine Mengen Leinen von einer Sorte, die zur Verfügung stehen und aus der dann 3-5 Kissen entstehen. Die nächste Serie kommt dann erst, wenn ich wieder neues Leinen finde, was mir gefällt. Geplant sind auch andere Naturmotive und Farben. Also am besten ab und zu in meinen Shop schauen, ob Ihr persönliches Lieblingsstück dabei ist.
Geliefert wird das Kissen übrigens mit einem Inlay aus Kapog. Das ist eine nachhaltig gewonnene flauschige weiße Naturfaser, die auch die vegane Daune genannt wird.
